In a bid to improve Nigeria’s digital economy, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday inaugurated the National Policy on Fifth Generation (5G) Networks.

He explained that the issues surrounding the 5G network were discussed at length, including health security, which led the federal government to come up with an appropriate policy.

Speaking on the treasures to be tapped in 5G technology, Buhari mentioned that the network will help the growth of all sectors, adding that it is faster than previous technologies available.

In its own words, “5G technologies can support virtually every sector of the economy, including improved connectivity, improved healthcare, support for education while promoting smart cities and boosting agriculture. , among other benefits.

“5G technology is significantly faster than previous digital technologies and enables near real-time communication. This can play a key role in boosting our efforts to strengthen security across the country.

“This will enable our security institutions to effectively deploy robotics, autonomous vehicles, augmented and virtual reality to meet all the security challenges we face.”

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, at the launch, said 5G technology will go a long way in reducing insecurity in the country.

Listing the objectives of the national 5G network policy, the minister said it will secure the ecosystem and ensure data protection with international standards.

He added that the 5G network will open opportunities for general information mining to solve security issues in the country.

“The 5G network will enhance transparency and economic development as its job creation potential is unprecedented.

“It is a viable platform on which security institutions can build to address the security challenges that have plagued the country, harnessing the potential of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) , Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Robotics, etc., which explores real-time information for maximum efficiency,” he said.
