Apple has just fired a leader of the #AppleToo movement

Apple has fired Janneke Parrish, a leader of the #AppleToo movement, amid a wide crackdown on leaks and worker organizing. Parrish, a program manager on Apple Maps, was fired for deleting files from her work devices during an internal investigation – an action Apple called “non-compliance,” according to people familiar with the situation. . The files included apps like Robinhood, Pokémon GO, and Google Drive.

Internally, some employees have expressed disbelief that Parrish’s dismissal could be anything other than retaliation for the organization.

This is the second time in recent months that an employee has been fired after denouncing Apple’s corporate culture. In September, the tech giant fired Ashley Gjøvik for allegedly leaking confidential information. Gjøvik has filed several accusations with the NLRB regarding how Apple treated her and the entire workforce.

Gjøvik’s latest accusation alleges that Tim Cook’s anti-leak memo could violate US labor law. In September, the CEO sent a note to all Apple employees saying that “people who disclose confidential information do not belong” to Apple. He also said the company was doing “everything in our power to identify those who fled. “

The comments were linked to a barehanded meeting on September 17, which was leaked to The edge.

Apple’s recent actions appear designed to curb the organization of workers. In August, employees launched the #AppleToo website to allow employees across the company, including AppleCare and retail, to submit articles on workplace harassment and discrimination. Parrish and Cher Scarlett, an Apple software engineer, then started share these stories on Medium.
