Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series (LC300) Price & Specs 2022

Instantaneous

  • Prices start from $ 89,990 for the base GX model
  • Toyota has included a large amount of new technology, even in GX
  • The reach is wider and lighter than the outgoing LC200

When Toyota launches a new LandCruiser, it’s a special occasion. Toyota goes so far as to say that the new LC300 series is its most successful LandCruiser yet. It’s also a new vehicle, designed and built from the ground up.

While it may be some time before you can test this claim, or even see the 300 series roll out of dealerships, now we can confirm pricing and features.

As expected, there are six trim specs to release, all with plenty to talk about. These range from the base model GX to the opulent Sahara ZX. Each LC300 is powered by a 3.3L twin-turbo V6 diesel engine, which Toyota says is a better-performing V8. The output figures are 227 kW at 400 rpm and 700 Nm between 1600 and 2600 rpm.

Toyota tells us it wanted to focus on smoother power delivery, which would result in less fatigue felt behind the wheel. The V6 is supported by a 10-speed automatic, with no manual transmission available.

The LC300’s wheelbase remained unchanged from the 200 series, but the 300 series is wider. It’s also lighter, thanks to the use of aluminum in the roof, doors, hood and tailgate panels. Let’s put a microscope on the LC300 and take a closer look at the LC300 range to see exactly what you get for the big expense.

LC300 GX

The GX model is the base LandCruiser 300 and as such was designed to work. It has two fuel tanks (main tank of 80L and sub-tank of 30L) with a total capacity of 110L. The low range reduction has been retained throughout the LC300 range, with all models utilizing a permanent 4×4 system with a locking center differential.

The suspension design consists of an independent double-wishbone suspension at the front and a rigid four-link axle at the rear. Bigger ventilated disc brakes are found up front and rear, with variable hydraulic power steering retained on the GX. A huge 200 amp alternator is good to see, but also shows that the LC300 will draw quite a bit of 12V current in operation.

17-inch wheels are standard on the GX specification, as are LED headlights and a raised air intake. Cloth seats are standard, as are vinyl floor coverings and rubber floor mats. Speaking of seats, there are only five seats in the GX specification, with a 60/40 split. Dual-zone automatic climate control with rear-facing ducts is a nice feature, as are six cup holders located throughout the interior.

Technologically, a 9-inch multimedia touchscreen is standard in the GX and GXL versions. There are 6 speakers with a bluetooth enabled audio system which is also Apple CarPlay / Android Auto compatible.

Being a new vehicle from scratch, improving safety is a major goal. Toyota has included a large amount of new technology even in the base GX model. Pre-collision safety, active cruise control all speeds, ABS with brake assist and lane departure warning with brake for steering are found in the base GX. There are also 10 airbags on board and a reversing camera as standard. Interestingly, eight color choices are available, with solid, metallic, and metallic mica paint finishes on the table.

LC300 GLX

The GLX specification sees a few additional features over the base GX, namely the inclusion of 18-inch wheels and Multi-Terrain Select (MTS). There’s no factory raised air intake on the GXL, but you do get third-row seats, alloy side steps, and LED front fog lights.

Safety levels are higher in the GLX version, with blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, third row curtain airbags and third row occupant detection. You also receive front and rear parking sensors and rear guide monitoring.

In terms of interior luxury, the GXL includes UBS-A and USB-C ports, Qi wireless phone charging, an automatic rear cooler with controls, and heated auto-dim / tilt exterior mirrors.

LC300 VX

The VX LC300 and above specifications receive integrated satellite navigation (with CD / DVD player), a 10-speaker audio system and a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen. Active cruise control with lane departure assist with steering wheel vibration is available for the very first time on VX and higher trims. There are also four cameras used in the Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) which integrates panoramic view monitoring.

On the exterior of the VX LC300, 18-inch wheels are standard, as are bi-LED headlights with auto-leveling and headlamp washers. Flashlights, chrome window moldings and a premium grille set the VX apart.

Inside the VX LC300 you will find a synthetic material used on the seats, with a woodgrain trim. A leather shifter adds a touch of class to the interior, as does LED lighting throughout. Four-zone automatic climate control is standard on the VX specification, as is 8-way power adjustment for the driver and passenger seats. There are eight cup holders inside, as well as a tilt-and-slide sunroof to bring the outdoors inside. Remote power windows are also featured on the VX specification and rain-sensing automatic windshield wipers.

LC300 SAHARA

The Sahara has a 14-speaker JBL audio system, heated steering wheel, and power-folding third-row seats to name a few. The seats feature leather trim and the driver’s seat has three memory settings for easy use if multiple drivers need to drive the vehicle. A head-up display is also included in the Sahara specification. Heated and ventilated second row seats, steering wheel and cooled center console are nice touches, as is the power rear hatch.

Externally, the only main difference is the chrome exterior mirrors and door handles, as well as the sequential turn signals. The interior sees seats accented with leather.

LC300 GR SPORT

The GR Sport is a blend of premium luxury and impressive off-road capability. Proving this, Toyota fitted the GR Sport with front and rear differential locks, disconnecting the front and rear stabilizer bars and their own adaptive variable suspension system; it will be a seriously capable vehicle. It is also the only model in the range to get locking differentials (all have a locking center differential, however).

Interestingly, for an off-road-focused model Toyota chose 18-inch wheels, but runs them on taller 265×65 R18 tires.

The exterior has a bold design, which really looks like the room. Unique exterior features of the GR Sport include a gloss black mesh grille with a matte white Toyota logo. The front and rear bumpers are unique to the GR Sport, as are the mudguards and wheel arch moldings. The GR Sport has five seats, with two-row curtain airbags.

LC300 SAHARA ZX

Standard on the 20-inch wheels there are a series of exterior revisions such as a chrome grille, new taillights and a redesigned tailgate to stand out from the crowd. A neat touch with the Sahara ZX is the choice of three interior trim colors: black, beige or red and black. Carbon style material has been used on the steering wheel, center console and door trim to give the interior a sporty look.

For better off-road capability, there’s a Torsen limited-slip rear differential found in the Sahara ZX. There is also an adaptive variable suspension and five drive modes to use when driving in various terrains.

Naturally, all that extra luxury comes at a cost and also reduces carrying capacity with an added weight penalty. The base model GX weighs 2470 kg, with the Sahara ZX weighing 100 kg more at 2570 kg. The GVM over the whole range is 3280 kg.
